About Our School

Distinguishing Features of Izmir Private Saint-Joseph French High School

Saint-Joseph's educational philosophy is based on a balanced synthesis of the Lasallian (La Salle) educational tradition, spanning over 300 years, and the cultural and pedagogical realities of Türkiye. The school's primary goal is to prepare students not only for academic success but also for life. Therefore, at Saint-Joseph, education is not reduced to a single exam or short-term performance goals; it is based on long-term development and personal maturation.

At Saint-Joseph, students learn to observe, question, interpret, establish cause-and-effect relationships, and think without prejudice. Critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and ethical values are an integral part of the education. The aim is to educate individuals who not only memorize information but also understand, interpret, and use it responsibly.

In today's rapidly growing world of information, Saint-Joseph aims not to simply fill its students with knowledge, but to help them make sense of that knowledge and transform it into skills. 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, communication, multilingualism, and global awareness are acquired as a natural extension of academic education. This approach prepares Saint-Joseph graduates not only for university but also for a changing world.

Izmir Private Saint-Joseph French High School, independent of any foundation, company, or individual, has maintained its deep-rooted traditions since 1880. The school combines this strong historical legacy with innovative and contemporary educational programs aligned with the Turkish National Education curriculum. At Saint-Joseph, tradition is not resistance to change; it is the fundamental basis for making change meaningful and lasting.

Saint-Joseph is one of the few institutions in Türkiye to hold the status of a "Private Foreign School." This designation is used for schools founded by foreigners before the proclamation of the Republic and which have maintained an uninterrupted tradition of education to this day. There are only 12 schools with this status throughout Turkey, and the only one located in Izmir is the Izmir Private Saint-Joseph French High School. In this respect, Saint-Joseph holds a special place in the history of education both in Izmir and in Türkiye.

Private foreign schools, while part of the Turkish National Education system, offer an education that surpasses Turkish standards, particularly in terms of foreign language instruction, academic discipline, cultural richness, and an international perspective. The diploma obtained from Saint-Joseph French High School is recognized by universities in many countries, primarily in France. This provides graduates with a significant advantage in the admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate programs abroad.
